There can be another scenario when you have changed your contact information and you don’t have access to the older ones. In that case, Facebook will ask you to enter the email address or phone number where they can reach you to inform you about account recovery.
Use Trusted Accounts to recover your account
If you have reached here, it means none of the above methods was of help to you. You can also take the help of your trusted contacts to reset Facebook password. But it is important that you have selected 3 to 5 friends as your ‘Trusted Contacts’ that you can call for help if you ever get locked out of your account.
Here are the simple steps that you can follow to regain access to your account:
- Visit the Facebook login page and under the ‘Password’ box, click on ‘Forgot Account’.
- Now on the password reset page where you see the recovery options, click on ‘No longer have access to these’.
- On the next page, Facebook will ask you to enter an email address or phone number that you have access to and press ‘Continue’.
- Next click on ‘Reveal my Trusted Contacts’ and enter the name of the contacts you have provided earlier.
- Your friend will receive the link, ask him to follow the link and send the code received to you.
- You can use the same code to get access to your Facebook account.
Note- The ‘Trusted Contact’ method will only work when you have added some of your friends to the trusted contacts list before losing access to your account. All these methods will be helpful to reclaim access to your account if you have forgotten Facebook password. After you have recovered your account, it is recommended to secure it properly so that you will not get into the same situation again.
This way you can secure your Facebook account and some of the other security measures include using trusted devices, two-factor authentication, trusted contacts and more.
